O’Connor Judicial Selection Initiative and the nationwide movement to preserve judicial independence
Thursday, January 7th, 2010Former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Conner is chairing The O’Connor Jucicial Selection Initiative to help support state efforts to replace partisan elections for judges with merit selection and retention elections. Money and politics in judicial elections have raised concerns throughout the country and many states will see ballot measures introduced to combat the negative trend. Nevada already has a ballot question planned for its upcoming elections and efforts are underway in Pennsylvania and other states to go to a merit selection/ retention election system.
